Destination Tea Notes: A couple of years ago, Vania Amorim became the new owner of Tealicious Tea House, which, since 2008 has been a local favorite for special occasion tea parties. When we visited, we were impressed with the extremely gracious service. All three of us were coming in from out of town: unhappily arriving a tad late, very late, and even later for the last seating of the day. The server encouraged us to be at ease, offering to prepare a pot of tea to have at the ready for the latecomers. Our early impressions were positive as we took in the pretty wallpaper and chandeliers while trying on the tearoom’s tea hats, and peeked at the beautiful gift shop items (vintage teasets, wide variety of teapots, new tea hats and more). Unfortunately, as our afternoon tea began, we noticed several slips that took away from our ideal experience (see below). Though the website states “all our dishes are made fresh from home-made recipes,” perhaps that was how things were done here in past, because several of the menu items seemed commercially sourced. Regardless, we enjoyed our time together, especially appreciating the leisurely pace to allow us to unwind and catch up.

Tea Selection

tea menu at Tealicious Tea House, Delray Beach, Florida
The tea menus bore smudges and signs of use, and we noticed stains on the white tablecloth as we came to the table. We appreciated the detailed descriptions of each tea, and were invited to choose two, electing to add a third pot.

We began with this delicious Lily Basket blooming tea, a jasmine white tea with amaranth flower.

We appreciate that tea sacs are used, to allow us to remove tea leaves when steeping is done, and that each teapot is labeled with its tea’s initials. We ordered a Creme Brûlée rooibos and a Ginger Peach black tea, and though our server confirmed that we had ordered correctly, it certainly wasn’t a black tea as described.

Scones & Spreads, Savories and Sweets

We began with a choice of soup or salad – both fresh, portioned into small bowls.

The tea sandwiches here included a cucumber cream cheese, egg salad, chicken salad croissant and quiche.
scones at afternoon tea at Tealicious Tea House, Delray Beach, Florida
This was our first time seeing scones that look as if they were baked in muffin tins, served with “clotted cream,” (possibly a butter/cream cheese blend?) and preserves.

Dessert was one macaron and one cheesecake square with grapes. We would prefer delicious homemade desserts to commercially made offerings.
