exterior Queen's Tea House in Parkland, FL

Destination Tea Notes: Ever since its opening in fall 2019, Queen’s Tea House has been a popular setting for fashionably dressed afternoon tea-goers of all ages and tea parties small and large. Afternoon tea tables are set with beautiful china, a plethora of tea hats to borrow are at the ready, most teas are flavored, and guests (aka queens) are offered a crown and throne for a keepsake photo (aka for the gram). Last year, they expanded their offering by partnering with The Ice Cream Club to offer locally made ice cream in their foyer. Our server Nahir was very kind, and recovering from a 40-person party when we arrived, which may be why we didn’t see as much of her as we would have liked, preventing us from taking advantage of the offered bottomless pots of tea. All told, it’s good fun coming here, especially in this case, because Angela was joined by Joanne Mone, The Enchanted Tea Girl. Based in Miami, Joanne is a tea etiquette consultant, author, speaker and founder of The Enchanted Tea Society, who neatly summed up the need for etiquette today like so: “it’s not bad to be civil.” We agree, and also with her requirements for a successful afternoon tea: “keep it fresh, beautiful and dainty.” To her point, if you were ever a fan of Food Network’s “Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee,” you’ll be happy with the afternoon tea menu offered here (more below).

Tea Selection

We begin with a choice of mimosa or bellini (pictured) as we peruse the tea menu.

teapot labels at afternoon tea in Queen's Tea House in Parkland, FL
Perhaps labels aren’t needed when it’s tea for two, but we like the attention to detail all the same. Paper tea sacs of tea leaves are left floating in the teapot, and we would have liked a plate to remove them to, to keep our generous pots of tea from becoming bitter.

Scones & Spreads, Savories and Sweets

We begin with a yummy housemade carrot ginger soup.
tea sandwiches and savories at afternoon tea in Queen's Tea House in Parkland, FL
Five savories include: a tasty mini Tuscan ratatouille tart, a brie fig apple croissant, chicken salad croissant, egg salad sandwich and hummus canapé. We would have preferred homemade tarts/crusts, and a different bread rather than double croissant sandwiches. The unremarkable hummus canapé could be omitted or perhaps replaced with a hummus veggie tea sandwich.
scone, spreads and danish at afternoon tea in Queen's Tea House in Parkland, FL
A mango danish is plated with the breads course, and here we see something we’ve not seen before. A mascarpone cream is served atop strawberry preserves for your scone, which is freshly baked in house using a commercial mix. We do like that each guest receives their own condiments, but of course would prefer true clotted cream served next to the jam, to allow you to easily portion each as you like.

The scone had a commercial smell, but was a generous size.

Although we expect the desserts are being outsourced, we happily enjoyed the mini trifle, and were intrigued by the dulce de leche tart topped with pineapple. Mini macarons, cheesecake and baklava were also offered.
