Serenity Garden Tea House in West Palm Beach, Florida

Destination Tea Notes: We were enchanted from the moment we walked through the front door of Serenity Garden Tea House in West Palm Beach, Florida. It’s easy to see why this teahouse has stood the test of time, open since 1998, and owned for the last twelve years by Dubliner Audrey Farrelly, who incidentally bakes the most perfect scone. All the trappings of iconic teahouses are here: vintage lace tablecloths, shelves and shelves of beautiful teacups and teapots, inviting seating areas, antiques and chandeliers. Delectable soups, scones, lemon curd, clotted cream and brownies are all homemade, while yummy fresh bread is brought in from local baker Aioli. Our server Linna was kind and took excellent care of us, but knew to give us plenty of time for conversation. Serenity Garden Tea House is a special place, where kids of all ages may experience a touch of magic…Angela did (see below)!

The teahouse is split into three dining rooms. This is the largest one, made cozier by bookshelf partitions and columns.

At back of the teahouse was our favorite room…

It would be fun returning time and again to take tea in all of the rooms.

Tea Selection

We appreciate the wide variety of teas, including high quality single estate teas, and the flavor descriptions for each.

Tea sacs with generous amounts of tea are left floating in teapots dressed in cozies to stay warm, and a timer is provided. We would have liked to remove the leaves when steeping was done, to prevent bitterness in the remainder of the pot after the first cup is poured.

And now the magic: over Angela’s shoulder, the exact blue teapot she inherited from her Grandmother Freda.

Scones & Spreads, Savories and Sweets

We began with a flavorful sweet potato pear soup.

First, we take the proper awed pause for this fabulous vintage folding three-tiered caked stand. The four tea sandwiches included turkey spinach and cranberry, tuna salad with sour green apple, egg and cress, and cucumber sandwich. Do not skip the homemade brownie, sinfully decadent in the best way. A petit four and locally sourced cream puff round out the dessert course.

The scone course is the standout here: a beautifully baked, perfect crumb, and generously sized scone is served with homemade spreads — lemon curd, jam and clotted cream. The clotted cream was more runny than the traditional, because Audrey has her own method of slow-cooking heavy cream for her recipe.

Before leaving, we suggest a perusal of the gift shop, including loose leaf teas and tea accessories. We took home the seasonal Pumpkin Spice.
