Destination Tea Notes: When you come into Chattanooga’s Six Little Teacups, owner Kim VanHoozier says she wants you to feel as if you’re visiting your favorite aunt or grandma for tea. And so in the same way we all look forward to Grandma’s made-from-scratch famous recipes, Kim whips up a tiered tray of homemade treats from her lemon curd to brown butter clotted cream, from pimiento-and-bacon-jam sandwiches to orange madeleines. Little touches that are sometimes overlooked at upscale afternoon teas can be found here: condiment spoons for each scone spread and warm scones wrapped in cloth to stay warm. Though Kim clearly appreciates the charm of vintage china in her table settings and decor, she uses insulated carafes to ensure the tea remains piping hot throughout the meal. Some of Kim’s “little teacups” — the business is named for her six children — work here, and we enjoyed the friendly service, but also that they would dip into the back to allow us to enjoy our conversation. As all the high tea offerings arrived to our table, Angela’s husband commented, “that is a lot of food,” and we’ll add, for a very fair price. All in all, a sweet addition to Chattanooga’s afternoon tea scene!
It looks as if they put a lot of attention to detail into the sandwiches – the filling dipped in herbs and the meat rolled into a rosette are lovely. Thank you for sharing!
