Destination Tea Notes: We were very happy when White Rabbit Tea Shoppe opened at the start of this year, because Greenville, SC folks and visitors need afternoon tea just like the rest of us. Neighbors and local moms Shane Manning and Kim Luong are running their tea shop with several standout twists on the norm that we admire. Shane was our chef and server during our visit, so we learned from chatting with her that the yummy (and nicely priced) afternoon tea menu is different every weekend because they tailor it to their customers’ dietary requirements. With help from a local baker on the scones and cakes front, Shane made our afternoon tea in house, even though the shop doesn’t have a full kitchen. Shane’s clever no-bake menu even includes homemade clotted cream (thanks to a crockpot), and is elevated with fresh herbs from the tea shop’s hydroponic herbal garden. It can be a challenge to create warmth and personality in a strip mall space, but that’s what the ladies have done with local wall art (for sale), an amazing tea-themed Alice in Wonderland mural, and fabric-draped dining area at back. Up front, boba teas are sold using loose leaf teas as the base – an exceptional practice that allows you to request any of their dozens of loose leaf teas as an iced or bubble tea (we say go for the cheese foam topping). A fun local hangout for bubble tea fans, we bet this tea shop quickly converts them to afternoon tea fans when they see it served on weekends. Perfect!

We admire the touches here to dress up the occasion: tablecloth, fine china, cloth napkin rose.

Each guest chooses a pot of tea. We were very happy with Alice’s Blend (a black tea with vanilla and grenadine) and Christmas Memories (a black tea with cinnamon and clove).

  1. I love the inviting, whimsical décor of this Alice in Wonderland tea room! I’m drawn to the selection of teas, and the food offerings which look plentiful and scrumptious. When in Greenville, I will definitely keep this establishment on my list of things to do.
