Update: Lady Bedford’s permanantly closed in 2020.
So You Want to Own A Tearoom in North Carolina?
Whenever an owner of a popular tearoom is ready to move on to their next adventure, we root for a new owner to take over and keep the business going strong. After all, our fondest wish is to see our afternoon tea directories swell with more and more lovely afternoon tea venues around the country. And we know that for many tea-goers, Lady Bedford’s Tea Parlour & Gift Shoppe is a longstanding favorite that must live on. Is this your moment, to realize your dream to run your own tearoom in North Carolina?
The Setting
A National Historic Landmark, the Village of Pinehurst, NC is a travel destination with historic old town, cottages, golf resort and internationally-acclaimed golf courses. The award-winning Lady Bedford’s Tea Parlour & Gift Shoppe — complete with a Victorian era dining room and commercial kitchen — is centrally located in the heart of the Village of Pinehurst.
The Business: Tea Room with Gift Shop
Over the past 11 years, Lady Bedford’s Tea Parlour & Gift Shoppe has earned itself an established, loyal customer base, whose favorite menu items include a Kentucky bourbon bacon quiche and the “Anna Maria,” a turkey croissant sandwich spread with strawberry preserves and cream cheese. In addition to the gift shop, the tea parlour seats up to 36 guests: 28 in the main dining room, and 6 to 8 in the smaller parlor.
The Client Base
Lady Bedford’s regularly welcomes groups celebrating birthdays, bridal and baby showers, which book out 1 to 2 months ahead of time. Military wives from Fort Bragg also plan outings to Lady Bedford’s. Special events and weekends usually are booked solid. In fact, the tea parlour has already begun taking December reservations.

The Opportunity
Owner Marian Caso is ready to retire to spend time with her grandchildren, but first she will train the new owner and consult on the running of the tearoom, which she will sell intact, including:
- Victorian-style furnishings
- Commercial appliances
- Serving ware
- All inventory
- Name and brand (amongst other accolades and press, Lady Bedford’s has been featured in the 2016 Teatime Magazine book “Taking Tea: Favorite Recipes from Notable Tearooms”)
