Destination Tea: Astor Court at The St. Regis Atlanta Gets A Makeover

afternoon tea at Astor Court in The St. Regis Atlanta

I recently treated my niece to an afternoon tea at The St. Regis Atlanta to celebrate her 8th birthday, and as soon as we arrived upstairs at the Astor Court to check in, we noticed the decor had changed. Our server confirmed that the court where afternoon tea is served had recently undergone a makeover (see below for the before and after). What remains the same, since our first visit here in 2016, are all the reasons we often recommend The St. Regis Atlanta’s afternoon tea to locals: kind and professional service, elegant ambiance, quality teas and delectable, artful savories, scones and sweets. For a look back at our afternoon teas here over the years, please see our now updated review.

After

The formerly subdued salmon and dusky blue tones have been traded for more dramatic fuchsia and mustard gold upholstered chairs resting on carpeting of larger-than-life pink and magenta blooms against an evergreen backdrop.

Tea Selection

Especially for children or tea newbies, the Tealeaves box of smelling jars is a helpful way to find your favorite tea. We appreciate too how our server provided guidance with a recommended black, green and herbal blend, then left us to explore and decide for ourselves.

We were very happy with our tea choices: Organic Pear Tree, a Young Hyson green tea with pear flavor (that was lovely with a touch of honey), and Harmony, an herbal with peppermint leaves, chamomile flowers and allspice.

Scones & Spreads, Sweets and Savories

At The St. Regis Atlanta, warm scones arrive first, with homemade lemon curd, cream and jars of preserves for spreading. Perfectly baked as usual, Cinnamon and Raisin scones have a crumble texture on top, and open to a soft center.

The three tiered tray’s gilded ceramic plates present the food in a nontraditional manner, with savory and dessert courses on all tiers. Fear not, this does not hamper one’s ability to savor each and every handcrafted treat in this afternoon tea menu.

Savories include (from top down): Smoked Salmon Pâte à Choux with tarragon aioli, caviar and apricot blossom; Cucumber and Herbaceous Cream Cheese on white with radish, Egyptian flower and microgreens; Spring Sausage Turnover with confit fennel and tomato basil bleu cheese; Curried Smoked Chicken Salad with craisins and candied walnuts on mini brioche; Egg Salad with sweet relish, bacon and spring greens on multi-grain.

Desserts include Guava Cheesecake (Angela’s favorite) with guava cremeux, french creme and vanilla pâte sucrée; Mont Blanc Verrine designed to represent the mountains in France with a flourless vanilla sponge cake, white chocolate mousse, housemade raspberry preserves, vanilla crumble and mini merengue drops; Chocolate Orange Layered Cake with mandarin mousse and orange coulis; White Chocolate Truffle with strawberry crunch (my niece’s favorite); Hazelnut Napoleon with white chocolate pearl and milk chocolate St. Regis medallion.
Happy Birthday at afternoon tea at Astor Court in The St. Regis Atlanta
Special thanks to our server and The St. Regis Atlanta for making my niece feel special as we celebrated her birthday. Just when we thought we couldn’t eat one more thing (this is after splitting every dessert because we were already getting full), out comes a birthday cake! And my niece wondered how they knew carrot cake was her favorite ;).
