Destination Tea Notes: Dear homemade afternoon tea, we love you. If you’re like us, and freshly baked scones, breads and cakes delight you, you will love Savannah Coffee Roasters Café and Bistro. As coffee is the star beverage here, teas are understandably bagged, but pleasingly from high quality Harney & Sons teas. Our hostess Nan takes the time to give us a quick history of afternoon tea and points out the roses decorating our china with the national flower of England. In this historic city, we admire that the tea service here has a thoughtful appreciation for the origins of afternoon tea, even if the menu strays from the traditional. And then our food arrives, and all thoughts are centered in happy feasting.

Tea Service

Nan of Savannah Coffee Roasters talks to us about the customs of afternoon tea
Our hostess Nan rightfully declares, “Girl Scouts deserve tea!” Thank you, Nan, for spending time with us to present the history of afternoon tea.
Harney & Sons teas at Savannah Coffee Roasters
Hip, hip, hooray for Harney & Sons teas! Pretty Country Rose creamer and sugar bowl.
Country Rose pattern, teacup and teapot
Our teapots hold hot water (that we needed a bit hotter to steep our black teas) and we are invited to help ourselves to the tea chest of Harney & Sons teas.
The Hot Cinnamon Spice and Paris are table favorites.

Three-tiered afternoon tea trays at Savannah Coffee Roasters
Wow! This is what we call a tea party.
Tea sandwiches at Savannah Coffee Roasters Libertea service
We are not usually fans of thick bread, but when it’s as melt-in-your-mouth, light-and-airy as this locally baked white bread, we approve! These sandwiches flew off the trays: turkey, ham and a first for us – tomato.

So much to love on this tea tray! The middle tier holds fragrant lemon lavender scones, cranberry orange scones, spinach phyllo squares and quiches lorraine.
Desserts at Savannah Coffee Roasters' afternoon tea
Made in house, the delicious dessert course includes raspberry ganache tart, cannoli with mini chocolate chips, seven layer bar and triple chocolate brownie. One of our young reviewers wants it known that she felt called to enjoy four mini cannoli – too irresistible!
