For more than 20 years, Muna Nash has been creating afternoon tea experiences that delight her customers with everything she loves about this beautiful ritual. Having spent years abroad in Ireland and England — at one point running a hostel in Ireland’s Wicklow Mountains where afternoon tea was served on Sundays — Muna experienced the heartwarming magic of an afternoon tea prepared at home. She was inspired to share that feeling, that you’ve discovered a special, charming place, decorating her American tearooms with collected antiques, vintage lace, inherited china and family heirlooms. Homespun and happily mismatched decor creates a welcoming ambiance at every Lovejoy’s Tea Room.
With her best friend from college, Gillian Briley, Muna got her start in the tearoom business in California, buying Lovejoy’s Tea Room in San Francisco, and later opening Lovey’s Tea Shoppe in Pacifica. The tearooms take their name from a character in Jonathan Gash’s novels: an antique dealer named Lovejoy. The friends eventually decided to focus on licensing their tearoom concept, selling the San Francisco tearoom in 2016, and working with former customer Brendon Georgiou, who opened his Lovejoy’s Tea Room of Portland in 2019.
When Muna fell in love with historic Ashland in southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley, she saw it as the perfect town for a new Lovejoy’s Tea Room. Ranked in the top 10 of “The 100 Best Small Art Towns in America,” Ashland is home to the renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival and award-winning galleries, theaters, wines and restaurants. Tourists also flock to Ashland for outdoor recreation in the surrounding mountains, including skiing at the famous Mt. Ashland Ski Area. After years of vacationing there herself, Muna knew Ashland needed a tearoom! She relocated to Ashland and opened Lovejoy’s Tea Room of Ashland in 2021.
Here you’ll find the hallmark cozy, playful decor of every Lovejoy’s, seated at lace-draped tables where teapots keep warm beneath handmade tea cozies, and broken china mosaics decorate the walls. In her tearoom, Muna wraps old world charm into an unpretentious and comforting experience.
Families, couples and friends often come to Lovejoy’s Tea Room of Ashland to celebrate their milestones — birthdays, anniversaries, baby and bridal showers — or just to luxuriate over the leisurely afternoon tea service.
Lovejoy’s loves its guests and staff, often sharing photos of their smiling faces and fabulous tea fashions. It’s evidence that Muna is making her dream come true: sharing the joys of afternoon tea with so many others.
Guests at Lovejoy’s Tea Room of Ashland may choose from more than 50 premium teas, some of which are blended by Muna herself. The tearoom’s extensive tea list features a wide variety of teas from various tea makers. Muna also imports teas from renowned British tea purveyor Taylor’s of Harrogate, a third generation Yorkshire family business started in 1886 (and makers of the English household staple: Yorkshire Tea).
