Destination Tea Notes: As the traditional teahouse becomes ever more rare in our country, we are thrilled to introduce a new Georgia gem. In downtown Springfield, Anna’s Tearoom opened last year in a historic home, where they are serving a delicious afternoon tea at such an affordable price that you will not have to save it for a special occasion. Owner Cindy Daugherty-McCumbers founded the tearoom in loving memory of her daughter Anna “Cassius,” who was known for her “kindness and passion for simple, beautiful things — especially tea…Every cup poured, every scone baked, and every table set is a celebration of Anna’s love for tea, friends and family, and togetherness.” Having experienced the caring service, perfectly crafted scones, and pretty decor of this teahouse, we saw for ourselves Anna’s legacy properly honored here.

We happened to meet a fellow guest who comes to Anna’s on her own to treat herself to afternoon tea over a good book. She understands that a local teahouse like Anna’s Tearoom is a community treasure, a place to give yourself a break, to unwind. But we say, it is also worth a roadtrip if you are not local. Anna’s mother and sister Alyssa, who prepared our afternoon tea, have created a teahouse we recommend for your destination tea wishlists.

Anna will always be remembered—not just in our hearts, but in the smiles of our guests and the quiet magic of each teatime moment.” – Anna’s Tearoom website

We were happy with this tidily plated afternoon tea menu, yummy from start to finish.

Our college-age reviewers thoroughly approved of the tea sandwiches, such that we ordered an extra plate of them ($8 per person). The spring menu tea sandwiches all served on soft bread included: pastrami, egg salad, cucumber, and coronation chicken.

In the scone section of our afternoon tea scorecard, the point off is for the missing clotted cream. As you can see, the scone crumb was perfect.

Dessert was a madeleine, honey cheese puff with jam, and strawberry with cream cheese (the table favorite). We like a light dessert course, though it might create more variety to swap the madeleine for something in the chocolate department.

After tea, we walked around the corner to sister business Frog Moon Bookshop, where we found a great selection of new and used books, plus fun gifts.
